DAY 01 |Airport - Puttalama - Ritigala _ Anuradhapura

Pick up from the Air Port then reach to Anuradhapura via Puttalam road. After the long drive we check in to the hotel & after the lunch we visit The first Kingdom of sri lanka ” Anuradhapura”

Anuradhapura Kingdom was the first established kingdom in ancient Sri Lanka.One of the most notable events during the Anuradhapura Kingdom was introducing Buddhism to the country.

In Anuradhapura Ancient city you can witness 14 special places. Sri Mahabodiya(The Sacred Tree), Jethawanaramaya , Abhayagiriya , Abhayagiriya Musemum ,Samadhi Buddha Statue , Ruwanwalisaya ( Pagoda ), Brazen Palace , Kuttampokuna(special twin pond) ,Thuparamaya, Isurumuniya Temple, Mirisawatiya Dagoba, Eth Pokuna( Elephant Pond), Moonstone,Royal Palace , Daladamaligawa (first Temple of  Tooth).

DAY 02 | Mihinthale - Ritigala - Dambulla

After the breakfast we move to visit “Mihinthale” where Buddhism was first introduced. and became a huge Buddhist monastery complex with hospitals later. Mihinthale is a picturesque site with the long wide stairs with temple tree beside.

Then we move to visit Ritigala

Ritigala is the highest mountain in northern Sri Lanka. The modern name Ritigala is derived from the ancient name Ariṭṭha Pabbata (Dreadful Mountain), mentioned in the “Mahavnsa”.

Legends abound on Ritigala. One of mysterious aspect is the belief of powerful medicinal herbs found near the crest. A herb called “Sansevi” is believed to have the power of conferring long life and curing all human pain. According to legend, all vegetation on Ritigala is protected by Yakkas, the guardian spirits of the mountain. and the base for the traditional Sri Lankan Martial Arts ” Angam” which evolves from Ravana era.

Check in to Hotel and in the evening we visit Dambulla Cave Temple.

Dambulla Caves Temple is world heritage site .This temple complex dates back to the first century BCE. It has five caves under a vast overhanging rock, carved with a drip line to keep the interiors dry.Inside the caves, the ceilings are painted with intricate patterns of religious images following the contours of the rock.The Dambulla cave monastery is still functional and remains the best-preserved ancient edifice in Sri Lanka. This complex dates from the third and second centuries BC, when it was already established as one of the largest and most important monasteries.
Move to Hotel for dinner.

DAY 03 | Dambulla - Polonnaruwa- Minneriya - Dambulla

After having the breakfast we move towards Polonnaruwa to visit Polonnaruwa Ancient City.

Polonnaruwa was the second capital of Sri Lanka after the destruction of Anuradhapura in 993. It comprises, besides the Brahmanic monuments built by the Cholas, the monumental ruins of the fabulous garden-city created by Great king Parakramabahu in the 12th century. Polonnaruw is very importent because why that is main place we can found lot of granite arts we selected main important sites for visit (some words are difficult to you but don’t be confused, we will explain wt does it means on site).

After having lunch we travel to Minneriya for some thrilling activity. a jeep safari at Minneriya National Park.

Minneriya National park’s fauna species include 24 species of mammals, 160 species of birds, 9 species of amphibians, 25 species of reptiles, 26 species of fish, and 75 species of butterflies. Large numbers of Sri Lankan elephants are attracted to grass fields on the edges of the reservoir during the dry season.The Historical  Minneriya tank contributes to sustain a large herd. Elephants gathered here is numbering around 150-200.Tourists visit Minneriya largely because of elephants, especially in dry season.

DAY 04 |Dambulla - Sigiriya - Kandy

Day 3 we visit Sigirya Rock fortress and move to Kandy City

After having the breakfast be prepared to burn some calories, yes you have to climb up some steps. not so hard, but bit adventurous.

Sigiriya Rock fortress consists of an ancient citadel built by King Kashyapa during the 5th century. The Sigiriya site contains the ruins of an upper palace located on the flat top of the rock, a mid-level terrace that includes the Lion Gate and the mirror wall with its frescoes, the lower palaces located behind the lavish lower gardens, and moats and ramparts which protected the citadel. The site was both a palace and a fortress. The upper palace on the top of the rock includes cisterns cut into the rock. The moats and walls that surround the lower palace are exquisitely beautiful.

Better you visit Sigiriya Museum first, because it is the best way to get an idea what is  “Sigiriya”?  Then we can start climbing up.

After descend we take the lunch and we start our journey towards Kandy via Matale (72 Km journey). On the way you have a chance visit Herbal spice gardens at Matale if you wish. They’ll explain all you need to know about Lankan spices and Ayurveda herbs

When we reach to Kandy first we go to visit Cultural dancing show. Cultural dancing show includes all sri lankan traditional dances with explanations and it is the best way get good dancing snap shots .

After we reach to hotel and get fresh and move to visit Kandy Temple of Tooth.

Temple of tooth considered as the most sacred place among Sri Lankans, and please respect the rituals and obey the rules. Short skirts, short trousers, sleeveless tops, see through clothes not allowed. No photography in the museum. Be calm and quiet.

Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Still every leader should promised public  to protect the Tooth relic. Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and is a World Heritage Site mainly due to the temple.

Back to our Hotel.

DAY 05 | Kandy- Colombo- Airport

After the Breakfast if we have time for departure we can go to Kandy city bazaar/ Tour.

Move to Pinnawala to visit Elephant orphanage .

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage was established to feed, nurse and house young elephants found abandoned by their mothers. Young elephants sometimes fall into pits and ravines in their quest for water during drought period. Other orphans have been displaced from their wild habitat by development projects or have been found abandoned before weaning, diseased or wounded.Now There are 78-85 elephants living here.

You have chance to fruit /milk feed baby elephants , take photos and can witness a large number of elephant herd bath at “Maha oya”

Move to Airport or your Hotel.

  • Sri Lankan People are friendly and will smile with you for no reason, it doesn’t mean an insult or joke of you. Smile back.
  • Do not Feed wild animals at national parks & do not attempt to take selfies with them.
  • No stepping out from the jeeps at the national parks.
  • Short trousers and mini skirts are not allowed at Temple of Tooth – Kandy, & please be kind to remove your shoes and hats   before entering to a Buddhist temple.
